A Story Teller
My name is Michael Norman and I am a photographer and videographer based in Rapid City, South Dakota. I started freelancing sometime in 2014 and have been doing it off and on throughout my college education. In my pursuit of working in creative services, I have obtained the Federal Aviation Administration Part 107 Commercial Drone License.
I have a passion for story telling and believe that every piece of art, whether that be a photograph, film, video game, book, poem or any other artful creation, is a whole new story that can be interpreted in a magnitude of different ways. This passion for story telling lead me to attending college at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota, where I majored in English and minored in Mass Communications with a photography emphasis.
I graduated from Black Hills State University with a Bachelor’s of Science in English with a minor in Mass Communications with a photography emphasis in December of 2022. During my time at Black Hills State, I was allowed to streamline my photography class, and replace classes dedicated to niche elements of photography. In place of those niche classes, I took a year of studio lighting classes and significantly improved my craft while simultaneously falling in love with the level of control that studio photography allows for. Effectively, I morphed my English degree into a pseudo-film school experience. The stories that I have read and the discussions I have had in my English classes inspired many of my photographs and personal short-films and allowed a more conceptual approach to both videography and photography.
This website is intended to act as a portfolio for my work in photography and videography for future clients or employers.
